Design Notes

The design of this variant took into large account the general properties of antimicrobial peptides, such as their amphipathicity and turning structures. In order to create a superior peptide to Tachyplesin I for increased effectiveness against Vibrio, certain peptide traits were exaggerated, such as charge, and hydrophobic and hydrophilic residues were shifted in order to attain a better amphipathic structure. Since we used a specially made program designed for the mass output of beta-sheet antimicrobial peptide variations, a design consideration made was that we had to make sure that structurally vital residues would not be changed.

Source

This part came from many sequence-based mutations of Tachyplesin I, which originates from the genomic DNA of horseshoe crabs.
